Image hosting by Photobucket

You keep all your smart modern writers
Give me William Shakespeare
You keep all your smart modern painters
I'll take Rembrandt, Titian, Da Vinci and Gainsborough

(This is a hard one. Look for a clue in comments.)

OK. A certain British band of 1960s heritage (although a certain member just recently put out a solo album) grew up in the neighborhood pictured below (the one you can see in the closeup, not the one in the background) and actually used the name of the neighborhood in an album. The passage below the photo is taken from the first song on that album.

OK, fire up those search engines.

Hmmm, we're more into Kiny Friedman than the Kinks these days...

I think I got it, but I cheated, so I'll wait for someone else. Does it start with an M?

Yes. That was quick.

I think it's my age that helped. MK may be too young and Schmutz might be too old (of course, I don't know that for sure).

So, I think Schmutz is saying he or she thinks it has something to do with Julie Andrews or Dick Van Dyke. I wonder where they grew up...

I just got up this morning -- I haven't even had my coffee. Why do you have a picture of Muswell Hill on your site?

MK's throwing smoke this morning.

Or blowing smoke, one or the other.

Anyway, since this edition of free associationblogging is over so early, I'll explain why I have photos of Muswell Hill on the web site. Turns out that the nearest branch of the Vogon Galactic Bank is in Muswell Hill. Since I still don't have a debit card, I must go into a branch to get cash. It's a long-ish walk or a very short bus ride away.

On the other hand, Muswell Hill is very nice. I doubt if the Davies family could have afforded it in its current gentrified state.

Is Muswell Hill where Mary Poppins was filmed?

Mary Poppins was probably filmed in, uh, Hollywood.

I can see that. I suspect Mary Poppins was all done on a soundstage. It has that look--even the parts that weren't animated.

It COULD have been filmed there! Anyway, I figured this out before MK (who must have cheated as well), and so I think I win on this one!

I didn't even know it was a contest. It's supposed to be free-association Tuesday and it was Thursday, for goodness sake. O.K., you win, I'll give you that. Sheesh, all I did was wake up, see Muswell Hill, and ask what's up with the picture. Now, I'm being accused of cheating!!! If I remember correctly, I'm the one who introduced Smitty to the music of the Kinks. I'm done with this situation and all the ugliness that it caused.

I believe I went to a Kinks concert in 1983 thanks to the connivance of Middle Kid.

And yes, that's while they did the whole "Lola" grandstanding throughout the concert.

Good show.

So, now we know there is some sort of relationship between Smitty and MK. Hmmm. And, it seems that MK takes umbrage very easily.
