Things That Are Better Back Home
Have I mentioned banks?
I have?
I had a stark reminder of this yesterday. For reasons I will go into at a later time, I had to call both our British bank (twice!) and our U.S. bank. The differences were stark. It was so nice to talk to somebody at a bank who didn't consider the help you needed a burden.

I always find this so surprising. The British have a reputation for being so polite!
But not for good customer service. Half of the Monty Python sketches are based on this unfortunate part of our existence.
But they could be at least polite while they give you poor customer service!
Where is back home for you? I just moved from NYC to Baton Rouge and while the customer service varies widely between the two places, so does the speed of checks clearing, funds being available and such. The bankers here are super nice and helpful, but usually my funds are not available for days after I deposit them. Not good. Many other times debit purchases I made one day don't go through until days later. Also not good.
So when are we going to hear about your overall impressions of living in the UK for two years?
'But not for good customer service'
With the general exception of banking, which has always been really good - so this is a new one! I have to say i found opening a bank account in America the rudest most convoluted experience ever!
