The Continuing Saga Of English As A Second Language

Bun fight: A scramble for anything of little consequence.

Its usage: A fellow racer looking at a congested course with a short starting straightaway: "It's going to be a real bun fight for the first corner."

Ha, ha, I get it - racer, bun fight. This usage wouldn't work for motor racing. Would it work for horses - do they have buns?

I have to admit that my first impression of "bun fight" was less scatological than Schmutz's first impression. I was more reminded of Animal House and its famous food fight. I can just imagine sweet buns flying around the room.
