Could that possibly be the origin of the term? Did you meet anyone there?

This Wikipedia entry says the Domesday Book called it the "Manor of Dorchinges," which probably is the root of the name. There also is a breed of chicken called the Dorking.

HEE HEE HEEE!!! HAW HAW!!

I've always heard that "dork" is slang for male whale genitalia. However, I just looked it up and it's probably what they call a "minced oath" (like using "gosh" or "dang") for a nickname for Richard.

Ha Ha ! SNORK!

I'm not so sure. I think there are some folks I work with who are from the town of Dorking. I'll ask when I go back to work in a week.

If they're from Dorking, they share a home with Sir Laurence Olivier, which is one more Oscar winner than my own hometown can claim.

Dorking is near the also interestingly named Leatherhead.

I think your hometown can also claim a very powerful woman in the Federal government (I hear she has control of how a large amount of money is spent) and a woman who is a regionally well-known peace activist, if I'm not mistaken.
