No TV and no beer make Smitty something something ...

Of course you will remember that our American TV is now in the possession of one of our moving guys. Not owning a TV wasn't a big deal in our temporary apartment, since the apartment had one, but now that we've moved into our permanent place, we now have no TV. This shouldn't be a huge deal, except the Winter Olympics just started, and there are few events I like watching more than the Winter Olympics. So, to satisfy myself, here are some photos of my favorite winter athletes.

What about Bode Miller? You've got to love a guy who says he has skied "wasted." I mean, really, who hasn't?

Bode's claims of skiing wasted explains his entire career. He skis straight where other guys turn ...

Smitty, With no TV, you missed the ladies dressed up like the Alps. Will your American TV work in Britain?

We saw the ladies dressed-up like the Alps from the comfort of The Old Crown, the pub within crawling distance of our house--an experience only disturbed by the dude with Tourette's sitting next to us.

I am also very sad that they haven't had much coverage of the Winter Olympics here, even though we have a TV!

You ought to get a look at how the Beeb handles Olympic coverage. If you're used to NBC's Hollywood style presentation, you may well be pleasantly surprised.

I remember being in France in 1999 during the track and field world championships. I was watching the Eurosport English feed, mind you, but I was stunned because they were showing the hammer throw--live--instead of taped highlights, as any U.S. network would have done. They also showed the triple jump, again live, (Jonathan Edwards, a Brit, was at the top of his game still at that point) instead of showing the taped highlights. I have high hopes for the Beeb, too.
