Fostering Greater Trans-Atlantic Understanding
I've contributed 2 quid 18 bob to buy a pint for the guy who runs the English2American Dictionary. Please consider him a worthy non-tax-deductible charity. It's very easy to do. If you have PayPal, Bob's your uncle!

I refuse to use paypal and Bob's still not my uncle. I would, however, like to contribute to the cause!
Use your imagination. Bob could be your uncle.
I have a cousin Bob, but that doesn't work as well ... still, I might toss down a quid for him, especially if he can add an explanation for how much a STONE is? If I lose half a stone, how much more thin am I?
Stone=14 pounds, but it makes absolutely no sense that people still talk about weighing X stones. It's the sort of thing that'll drive you crazy when you're talking to British people. Tell me in pounds--kilograms even, at least I can get in the ballpark with a brain calculation without pulling out a digital calculator.
Or to pun it up: A stone is a an amount of weight equal to that of all the blood in Keith Richards' body.
I contributed an extra pint to the cause hoping that I'll see a wittier explanation than Wikipedia's.
I see from the English2American Dictionary site that the author has yet to drink the beer you contributed. I find it hard to believe so many people have sent him money!
