Hot time, summer in the city ...

High temperatures this week are forecast to range between 23 and 28C.

Nobody told me it got this warm here.

(Before the Arizonans and Texans chime in, there is no air conditioning anywhere. Anywhere. So there.)

We never, ever turn on our air conditioner until reaches at least 33C for 4 or 5 days. Our low has been 28C and our high has been 45C. Are we complaining? You bet!

I'll trade you, Smitty. It's a positively chilly 15C here today, and I'm not warm, let alone happy, until it hits about 25C. I start thriving around 27C. I even put the heater on, and I'm looking around for material with which to make soup.

I don't have air conditioning either, although that's a rarity here in the great Southwestern Ontario microclimate.

Besides which, I so will trade you, since if I'm already in Londinium (as opposed to merely London, ON), I can get on a train and be with my boyfriend in Birkenhead in a matter of hours. Ahh... *grin*

I distinctly recall air conditioning in the British Library. And, with a high of 36 and an expected heat index of 38 degrees today, I think we have the right to complain!

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that we keep the thermostat at 27C, so you would find our house rather warm all the time. We're luckier than O.K., though, in that our heat index is almost always below the actual temperature. I guess what I'm saying, Smitty, is quit your complaining and enjoy the summer weather!

Yes, yes, MK, it's warm in Arizona, and maybe you keep your thermostat higher than other people do ... but when you go somewhere else there's a guarantee of walking into air conditioning, probably cooler than in your house.

Here, not so much. When it's hot, and it's hot in your flat, it's pretty much hot everywhere you go--the deli, the store, the cafe, the Tube, the church, the bus, the theatre. It's a stark difference.

We have to take jackets with us for most places we go in the summer, so, you're right, there's air conditioning. And we do have a pool. Still, I think you should just buck it up and drink some ice tea. You could go to the British Library and hang out. I hear it's nice (and air conditioned).

I don't think they drink ice tea in London! And, I have to agree with Smitty, the tube gets very stuffy (and stinky!) when it gets warm. But, MK, you're right, he could go to the library, they even have wi fi, so he could take his computer and do his work and blogging there!

London is not in the Third World. They have ice. They have tea. There you go!

They don't seem to have much ice. It's not automatic as it is here. And sometimes they even serve the beer warm. It's not the third world, but it's not the US either!

I hear ya about the a/c - in Melbourne this past summer there were about 6 days that were over 40C and everyone was MELTING, but the other 359 days you can manage ok without a/c :)
