An important question

I've been kind of silent on the Paris trip thus far. But that's because I've been wrestling with an important question, and I finally decided that maybe I should just pose it to you readers out there.

Is it worse to be seen in Paris wearing a Penn State sweatshirt, or a shirt that says "Paris, France" on it? Hmmmmm....

Oh, Mrs. W, it's much worse to wear a shirt that says "Paris, France" on it in Paris. When I went to college (granted that was a long time ago) nobody would ever wear their own college shirts on campus except on game day at the arena. This was not so much at the Big 10 school I attended, which was not really a very hip place, but more at the PAC-10 schools I attended (I went to 3 of them) which were, of course, very cool. I might buy a shirt that says, say "Sedona" or "Chicago" on it when I'm there visiting, but I wouldn't wear the shirt until I got home.

I feel obliged to take offense at MK's comment that Big 10 schools aren't hip, and that PAC-10 schools are. I would phrase it more along the lines of the Big 10 schools being more sophisticated while the PAC-10's seem to think they are "trendy."

Mrs. W., I would opt for the Penn State shirt over the Paris, France shirt when in Paris, and the other way around when visiting Penn State.

OK. I didn't say all Big 10 schools aren't hip -- I said the certain one I went to wasn't hip. PAC 10 schools are very hip and cool. Unless you've been to one or more PAC 10 schools, you can't really know. That said, I totally agree with OK about the wearing of the shirt.

The Paris, France shirt is much worse--it's like wearing an "I Love DC" shirt to the Kennedy Center. Penn State, at least, is exotic in France, though it might make you a target for Algerian terrorists. The biggest faux pas, however, is to wear a shirt in Paris from a California winery!!!!!

Hmm, it might be an even bigger faux pas to wear a shirt in Paris from a Texas winery!!!! Or maybe they would just think that was laughable.

I think a USC shirt would be better, but I think the Penn State shirt is OK as long as JoePA is having a good year.
